Cengage Group launches a GenAI-powered Student Assistant to help college students enhance their learning experience through personalized guidance.

Cengage, the U.S. higher education division of Cengage Group, has launched a GenAI-powered Student Assistant in beta, embedded within its MindTap online learning platform. This new tool aims to guide students through the learning process, helping them understand concepts and apply their learnings effectively, rather than merely providing answers. It also offers access to tailored feedback and relevant resources to improve student outcomes.

The launch follows two years of research involving over 3,000 faculty members and 200 students to understand how AI can best enhance learning. According to Cengage, the Student Assistant leverages intelligent language models and Cengage-owned content, focusing on specific disciplines to create a more effective learning experience. During the Fall semester, more than 5,000 students will test the tool in courses such as Principles of Management and Organizational Behavior.

Cengage will evaluate student engagement, learning outcomes, and overall satisfaction before a wider rollout in Spring 2025. The initiative reflects the growing role of AI in education, a market expected to reach $55.3 billion by 2032. Cengage CEO Michael E. Hansen emphasizes the thoughtful approach taken to ensure the tool addresses classroom challenges while maintaining academic integrity.
