Google Veo 3.1 update boosts GenAI filmmaking with object editing, rich audio, and faster creative control for video creators.

Google has launched Veo 3.1, a major upgrade to its GenAI video model, introducing new tools for object insertion. As well as richer audio, and fine-grained editing. Integrated into the Flow AI video editor, the Gemini App, and Gemini API, this update gives creators more flexibility and realism in AI filmmaking. It directly tackles one of the biggest challenges in GenAI video, limited post-generation control.

The new Insert feature lets users seamlessly add or replace objects in existing clips. While also maintaining natural lighting, depth, and texture. Veo 3.1’s enhanced scene analysis ensures that every addition blends contextually, making edits appear authentic. A Remove tool, launching soon, will allow users to erase unwanted elements while reconstructing backgrounds automatically. Together, these features transform Flow into a full GenAI video editing suite. Reducing dependence on external software.

Sound generation has also received a major overhaul. Earlier models produced silent or minimal audio, forcing creators to rely on post-production. Veo 3.1 now synchronizes dialogue, ambient sound, and effects across all video modes, from “Frames to Video” to “Extend.” This leap closes the gap between static video generation and cinematic storytelling, allowing users to craft immersive sequences with dynamic soundscapes directly within Flow.

Google has expanded access to Veo 3.1 through the Gemini API and Vertex AI, making it available for developers and enterprises. The rollout emphasizes responsible AI, embedding SynthID watermarks to ensure traceability and authenticity. As competition in GenAI video intensifies, Veo 3.1 positions Google as a front-runner—blending creativity, precision, and safety for the next era of AI filmmaking.
