Samsung’s updated Bixby, powered by advanced GenAI, offers smarter, context-aware assistance, enhancing user interactions on Galaxy devices.
Samsung’s new Bixby, now powered by large language models (LLMs), introduces advanced genAI features designed to make the assistant more responsive and context-aware. With the latest upgrades, Bixby can handle sequences of commands and provide accurate follow-up responses, allowing for more natural conversations with users. These enhancements position Bixby on par with Google’s Gemini and Apple Intelligence, aiming to create a streamlined, conversational AI experience within Samsung’s ecosystem.
The GenAI-powered Bixby excels at multitasking and understanding complex requests. For instance, it can integrate information from various apps, like showing a route to a location mentioned in a text and suggesting suitable attire based on weather data. The AI also performs actions like photo editing and web searches through simple voice commands, significantly expanding Bixby’s practical utility. This advancement addresses previous limitations by allowing Bixby to deliver timely and relevant responses across different app contexts, enhancing user productivity and ease of use.
In China, Samsung has tailored Bixby to work independently of Google Play Services by collaborating with local AI provider Meitu, allowing the assistant to function with more autonomy. This region-specific model also supports Samsung’s Galaxy AI functionality, including the ability to convert sketches into AI-generated art. While Samsung hasn’t disclosed the specific models powering Bixby, it is committed to developing an in-house AI knowledge base, which will eventually extend these capabilities to smart home devices globally.
Whether the updated Bixby features will be available on smartphones outside China remains uncertain. However, the company’s evolving AI strategy hints at a broader GenAI integration across Samsung devices, with global expansion potentially aligned with the launch of future Galaxy models.
