Axiata embarks on a transformative journey with AWS, harnessing GenAI to redefine telecom services and enhance customer engagement across Asia.
Axiata Group Berhad, a prominent Asian telecom and digital entity, has embarked on a groundbreaking journey with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its primary cloud provider. This strategic alliance is set to revolutionize Axiata’s operations, enhancing services for its 174 million customers across Southeast and South Asia.
By the end of 2024, Axiata plans to migrate over 650 critical applications, covering customer service, enterprise resource planning, and human resources, to AWS. This migration also includes 80 ML applications, underscoring a significant digital transformation. Utilizing AWS’s data analytics, GenAI, and ML technologies, Axiata aims to refine data-driven decisions, tailor new market offerings, and craft innovative services across the telecommunications, banking, and payments sectors.
Key to this transformation is the security aspect, where Axiata will employ AWS’s robust security features like identity and access management (IAM) and encryption to ensure top-tier security and privacy across its telecom network. Anthony Rodrigo, Axiata’s group chief information officer, highlighted the role of AWS in bolstering Axiata’s service capabilities and agility, emphasizing enhanced customer experience and operational efficiency.
The innovative use of Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker is another collaboration highlight. These tools enable Axiata to build experimental GenAI applications and optimize business processes, respectively. For instance, Dialog Axiata in Sri Lanka has developed an internal AI factory system, streamlining its analytics and ML infrastructure. Similarly, XL Axiata in Indonesia is leveraging Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service for its mobile applications, significantly boosting service availability and user engagement.
This partnership exemplifies Axiata’s commitment to embracing cloud technology for digital transformation, driving innovation in customer offerings to maintain competitive edge. The collaboration extends to Axiata Digital Labs (ADL), which, with AWS’s support, offers the Axonect product suite – a toolbox aiding telcos and enterprises in modernizing business-support systems and enhancing digital customer experiences.
Conclusion: Axiata’s collaboration with AWS marks a pivotal step in its digital transformation journey, setting a benchmark in the telecom industry. This partnership not only enhances Axiata’s service delivery but also positions the company as a leader in digital innovation.
