Engel introduces Engel GPT, a GenAI assistant to enhance injection molding operations, promising to transform industry processes.

At its Digital Days event, Engel, a leading manufacturer of injection molding machines and automation systems, showcased its latest digital innovations. Among the highlights was the prototype of Engel GPT, an LLM designed to support injection molding companies.

Malcolm Werchota, head of generative AI at Triple Eight Solutions and co-founder/COO at CoatingAI, presented “AI in Industry — Has the Future Already Begun?” He introduced Engel GPT as a tool to minimize the need for internal emergency services. This GenAI assistant provides employees direct access to machine and process data on the shop floor via voice input, integrating seamlessly into Engel’s customer portal.

The Engel GPT prototype, displayed prominently at the Austrian large-machine manufacturing center, attracted significant attention at the event. Additional stations demonstrated the practical implementation of Engel’s digital products and assistance systems and featured customer success stories.

While Engel did not announce a release date for Engel GPT, citing the rapidly evolving nature of large-language models, the company emphasized its commitment to digitalization. Engel’s tools aim to optimize production, reduce energy costs, improve quality, and address skills shortages, with AI and digital twins playing a key role in the future of injection molding.
