Epic introduces new GenAI applications to ease clinicians’ workload, enhance documentation, and integrate research insights into care.

Epic, the leading health IT company, is rapidly advancing its integration of GenAI features into its electronic health record (EHR) software, aiming to alleviate the documentation burden on clinicians and bring research insights directly to the point of care. During the company’s User Group Meeting in Verona, Wisconsin, Epic executives outlined their vision for transforming EHR systems using AI combined with cloud technologies and extensive patient data.

One notable feature, MyChart in-basket augmented response technology (ART), is already implemented across 150 healthcare systems, generating one million response drafts monthly. According to CEO Judy Faulkner, this technology saves clinicians significant time, with patients reporting high satisfaction and preference for the AI-generated responses.

Additionally, Epic has developed an AI tool with ambient voice technology to assist with charting progress notes after patient exams. This tool is now deployed in 186 healthcare organizations, supporting clinicians in reducing their documentation workload.

With burnout affecting 40% to 60% of clinicians, Epic emphasizes that GenAI tools can address critical challenges like workforce burnout and staffing shortages, offering a practical solution to enhance healthcare delivery.
