Torrens University used GenAI to standardize 60,000 web pages, enhancing student experience and digital learning assets.

Torrens University, Australia’s leading international university, leveraged GenAI to overhaul its digital presence by analyzing and refining the design of 60,000 web pages. This move aimed to standardize content, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality online learning environment for its 21,000 students, split evenly between online and on-campus.

Initially using GPT-3 and GPT-3.5, the university faced challenges with output accuracy. The breakthrough came with GPT-4, achieving over 90% accuracy. This enabled the rapid conversion of content to meet mobile responsiveness and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0). This transformation included creating a unified platform, MyLearn, powered by Instructure’s Canvas LMS and Microsoft Teams.

The GenAI initiative involved a three-stage process: a bot identified existing content assets, AI restructured the UX/UI design, and human reviewers ensured quality. This streamlined content presentation, enhancing user experience across all courses by removing wasted space and reorganizing content for better clarity and consistency.

In addition to standardizing the web pages, Torrens University is exploring GenAI tools within its LMS to further aid students in their studies and assessments. These tools are expected to provide personalized learning support and are planned for broader implementation soon, positioning the university at the forefront of digital education.
