YouTube Music tests prompt-based AI radio stations for personalized music experiences.
YouTube Music is experimenting with a new feature that uses GenAI to create custom radio stations based on user prompts. It allows users to generate personalized music playlists by describing the type of music they want to hear.
When the feature is available on your device, you’ll see an option to “Ask for music any way you like” in your Home feed, along with the existing “Start radio” button. Tapping on this option creates a chat-based interface where you can type or speak your music preferences. The interface launches in fullscreen mode with an “Experiment” badge indicating its trial status.
Users can type prompts or use voice commands to describe their desired music. YouTube Music then generates a radio station named after your prompt, complete with a description of the station’s theme. This GenAI-driven feature aims to make music discovery and enjoyment more intuitive and tailored to individual tastes.
Currently, the feature is in a limited testing phase, with access restricted to a small group of users. While this limits the immediate reach, the potential for creating perfectly tailored music experiences is significant. If the testing phase proves successful, YouTube Music plans to roll out this feature more broadly, offering users an exciting new way to enjoy music based on their specific moods and preferences.
