Adobe has unveiled Generative Extend, an AI-powered tool in Premiere Pro, enabling editors to seamlessly extend video and audio clips.

Adobe has launched Generative Extend in Premiere Pro, a GenAI feature designed to simplify video editing by extending footage and ambient audio with just a few clicks. This tool is aimed at solving a common challenge for video editors. Firstly, the lack of extra footage to support smooth transitions or correct abrupt movements.

Powered by Adobe’s Firefly GenAI model, Generative Extend can add up to two seconds of video and ten seconds of background audio to existing clips. It analyzes footage and intelligently generates new frames that match the original clip’s motion, lighting, and style. This makes it ideal for tightening edits or creating more natural transitions without needing to reshoot content.

The feature is currently available in 4K and will eventually require Firefly credits after a limited free period. Adobe Creative Cloud subscribers receive monthly credit allocations based on their plan. Additional credits can be purchased separately. Generative Extend is part of Adobe’s broader push to bring GenAI deeper into creative workflows. Additionally, other features in the latest Premiere Pro update include an AI-powered search panel that identifies objects. As well as locations, and camera angles, and automatic caption translation in 27 languages. These tools aim to reduce manual tasks, boost productivity, and improve the quality of creative output. By embedding GenAI into Premiere Pro, Adobe empowers editors to work faster and more intuitively. Using natural language prompts and intelligent automation to handle complex editing tasks.
