Canva launches Dream Lab, a new AI image generator that enhances creativity and customization for users on its platform.
Canva has introduced Dream Lab, an AI-powered image generation tool available on its web and mobile platforms. This feature addresses the challenge of creating custom images by allowing users to input descriptions and select from various style presets. This includes Cinematic, 3D Render, and Illustration. Users can also reference existing images to influence generated results, similar to capabilities found in professional software like Photoshop.
Dream Lab is built on the technology from Leonardo.ai, an image generator acquired earlier this year. This development promises improved rendering for detailed, photographic-style images, distinguishing it from Canva’s previous image tools. Users benefit from a more refined image generation process. Enhancing their creative projects efficiently.
As part of Canva’s broader Magic AI suite, which also includes tools for text generation and video effects. Dream Lab addresses the challenge of quick, high-quality image creation for non-expert users. With this GenAI tool, users can select from different styles and aspect ratios, generating images that fit various branding and creative needs without requiring design expertise. This democratizes advanced image creation by providing options for personalized and consistent visuals at scale.
However, Dream Lab has limitations. The tool is only available from Canva’s homepage and does not integrate into the main Editor, and it outputs a maximum of four images per prompt. Free users are restricted to 20 lifetime uses, while Pro, Teams, and Nonprofit accounts receive up to 500 uses monthly. Additionally, automated moderation screens prompts and generated images for compliance, and a reporting feature is available to flag inappropriate outputs, ensuring a safe and streamlined experience for users.
