P&G launches chatPG, an in-house GenAI tool, enhancing 35+ business use cases with robust IP protections.
Procter & Gamble (P&G) has launched chatPG, an internally developed GenAI tool. Vittorio Cretella, P&G’s CIO, shared in a recent interview the unique aspects of chatPG, which mirror commercial GenAI models but offer enhanced intellectual property safeguards.
Initially introduced in beta in February, chatPG is now fully operational and supports over 35 varied use cases within the company. Its integration with internal data streams marks a new phase in P&G’s AI journey. This move is a progression from the foundational AI model introduced in mid-2022, which initially assisted cloud engineers, demonstrating P&G’s ongoing commitment to AI and machine learning innovations.
ChatPG was developed using OpenAI’s API, ensuring that sensitive company information remains private and inaccessible for external model training. This consideration underlines P&G’s strategic approach to AI, prioritizing data security and intellectual property.
Cretella emphasizes the broad applicability of generative AI, extending its benefits to various sectors of the company, from employee onboarding to enhancing customer service in call centers. This wide-ranging adoption aims to boost productivity and improve experiences across the board for both employees and customers.
To ensure responsible use, P&G has implemented mandatory training and an acceptable use policy for all employees interacting with chatPG. This measure underscores the importance of human oversight and accountability in AI-assisted tasks.
Further illustrating P&G’s AI-driven innovation is their ‘AI factory’, a concept Cretella describes as pivotal in the deployment of AI solutions across 80% of P&G’s global operations. This platform streamlines the development and scaling of machine learning models and allows for regional customization, significantly accelerating deployment times.
Cretella’s vision encapsulates a synergy between human ingenuity and AI capabilities, a philosophy he shared at Gartner’s IT Symposium/Xpo. He encourages companies, regardless of their size, to identify and automate pain points in their AI and machine learning processes, a testament to the transformative power of AI in business.
