IBM and the USTA introduce new GenAI features for the 2024 US Open, enhancing fan engagement with match summaries and real-time insights.
IBM and the USTA are enhancing the 2024 US Open experience with new AI-driven features on their digital platforms. This year, fans can access AI-generated Match Report summaries for all 254 men’s and women’s singles matches, thanks to IBM’s watsonx platform, including the Granite 13B large language model. These reports provide detailed analysis and are reviewed by USTA editors before publication on the US Open app and website.
IBM’s AI commentary, first introduced in 2023, returns with improved frequency, expressiveness, and contextual accuracy, offering automated English-language audio and subtitles for match highlight videos. The IBM SlamTracker has also been redesigned, providing real-time insights, win predictions, and 3D graphics of ongoing play for all singles matches.
In addition to these features, IBM and the USTA Foundation are launching a collaboration to offer AI-focused career training through IBM SkillsBuild. This initiative will provide under-resourced youth, teaching professionals, and the public with access to AI courses and development resources.
These innovations highlight IBM and USTA’s commitment to delivering a world-class digital experience for the 15 million fans who engage with the US Open each year.
